Unpacking the Intersection of Race & Health
At Rooted Public Health, we are reimagining how public health is done. We believe that traditional research models—often extractive, top-down, and disconnected from lived reality—are failing underserved communities. It is time for a disruptive approach.
The current public health narrative often relies on “resilience,” a concept that asks marginalized communities to endure systemic failure rather than fixing the system itself. We reject this.

Strength in Stories
Stories were written by Lawrence University students in Appleton, WI for the course, Race, Ethnicity and Health, offered in our Ethnic Studies majors. Students captured the strengths and challenges of real community partners in public health across the Midwest.
Sharing local narratives highlights the strengths and resilience of our communities across Wisconsin, showcasing how race and health intersect to create unique stories of success and empowerment.
